Benefits of Immediate Dentures
Immediate Results
Immediate dentures offer an excellent alternative to being without teeth immediately after your natural teeth are removed.
Better Healing
Protect sensitive tissue where natural teeth have been removed, allowing healing to progress while helping to keep the gums free of particles that might cause irritation.
Easier Transition
Help to make the transition from eating soft foods to a wider variety of textures during the healing process.
The Process
First, we take impressions of your mouth while your natural teeth are present. Then, we fabricate your new denture to mimic your natural teeth or make modifications based on your needs. Later, your dentist or oral surgeon will extract your remaining teeth and insert your immediate denture that same day. The next day, we will see you for a follow-up visit to check the tissue and make any adjustments to the denture as needed.
What to Expect
A healthy adult can expect to heal from tooth extractions for six to eight weeks. During this time, your gums and bone will shrink and change. Regular visits to adjust the denture to accommodate these changes are to be expected. A temporary soft liner on the tissue surface of your denture may be given to help minimize sore spots, and improve the comfort and fit of your denture. The healing process and changes to your mouth should be completed within six to seven months. At this time we will consult you regarding your needs, potentially resulting in a permanent reline or the fabrication of a new permanent denture.
